National Practitioners Data Bank
The National Practitioner Data Bank is managed by the Health Resources
and Services Administration (HRSA). This databank helps to identify and
discipline those who engage in unprofessional behavior; and to restrict
the ability of incompetent physicians, dentists, and other health care
practitioners to move from state to state without disclosure or discovery
of previous damaging or incompetent performance. The Data Bank is primarily
an alert or flagging system intended to facilitate a comprehensive review
of health care practitioners' professional credentials.
DHHS
DHHS Sanction Search is a search against a database of information about
sanctions levied against service providers billing Medicare and Medicaid.
The database, which is updated monthly, identifies individuals and business
entities that have been found to have initiated fraudulent practices as
well as the identification of the type of sanction. Also, there is information
advising if and when the sanction has been removed by the agency.
